Viscount Uehara Y saku ( 6 December 1856 8 November 1933) was a field marshal in the Imperial Japanese Army.Born in Miyakonojo, Hy ga province (currently Miyazaki prefecture, Uehara's father was a samurai of the Satsuma domain. He graduated from the Imperial Japanese Army Academy in 1879 with Akiyama Yoshifuru as one of his classmates. Uehara was sent to France for studies on modern military techniques from 1881-1885. He later fought in the Russo-Japanese War, as a staff officer in the Japanese Fourth Army commanded by his father-in-law, General Nozu Michitsura.

Born in Braunfels an der Lahn into an aristocratic family, Kleist was educated in a German military school and graduated in 1900. He served as a lieutenant of hussars and a regimental commander in World War I. After the war he served as a commander of a cavalry division from 1932-35. Kleist was semi-retired when, in August 1939, he was recalled to active duty at the age of fifty-eight.

Felix Graf von Luckner (born Dresden, Germany, 9 June 1881, died Malmö, Sweden, 13 April 1966) was a German nobleman, navy officer, author and noted sailor who earned the epithet Der Seeteufel (the Sea-Devil) -- and his crew that of Die Piraten des Kaisers (the Emperor's Pirates) -- for his exploits in command of the sailing commerce raider SMS Seeadler (Sea Eagle) in 1916-1917. It was his habit of successfully waging war without any casualties that made him a hero and a legend on both sides. He was the great-grandson of Nicolas Luckner, Marshal of France and commander-in-chief of the French Army of the Rhine, who had been elevated to count in the 18th century by the King of Denmark. He was married twice, firstly to Petra (née Schultz) from Hamburg with whom he had a daughter, Inge-Maria, born in 1913. In Malmö, Sweden on September 24th 1924 he married Ingeborg.

Lieutenant-General Sir Henry Fuller Maitland Wilson (1859 1941), who commanded XII Corps during World War I, was his uncle. Wilson was educated at Eton College and after attending Sandhurst was commissioned into the Rifle Brigade as a 2nd lieutenant in March 1900, and served in South Africa in the Second Boer War, for which he was awarded the Queen's and King's South Africa Medal each with two clasps.
